2008 Ultimate International Martial Arts Championship

On May 24th, 2008, the Ultimate International Martial Arts Championship was held at the Santa Clara Convention Center. Thirty-two students represented our school, competing in multiple events against almost a thousand other competitors. Many different martial art forms including Kung Fu, Karate, Tae Kwan Do, Free-form sparring, etc. were represented in the fifteen, event arenas.

By the end of the event, our students had won twelve first place, eight second place and six third-place trophies.
Four of our students also secured the Grand Champion title for their age groups. Not only has all the hard work and trainingpaid off handsomely, but these excellent results are a clear indication of the strong standing of Chinese Kung Fu among theMartial Art disciplines.

Melissa Chan competed in Long Fist, Sword and Staff forms, where she gracefully demonstrated her strength, precision and stability, while performing highly difficult moves. Her excellent overall performance secured her first place in the Chinese Kung-Fu class (Girls 8-9). Competing against the Karate and Tae Kwan Do contestants, who had also placed first in theirsection, Melissa eventually secured the Grand Champion title for Black Belt (Girls between 8-9).

With a 4th degree Black Belt, Sifu Long competed in the 18+ Boys Division. His explosive fist-form with dynamic kicks, high jumps and superb falls were only surpassed by his own whirl wind, Double Sword performance. These superior displays of the Wu Shu forms, secured Sifu Long the Grand Champion title for Boys, Black-belt (18+).Students, Tandy Yuan and Ian Lim, both first time participants in a Competitive martial arts event, showed enthusiasm, dedication and bravery in their performances. Both ended the day as Grand Champions in their respective age groups; Tandy for boys 10-11 years of age and Ian for kids, 6 and under.
