Mingguang Tong was born in a Kung Fu family in Liaoning Province, and began learning Kung Fu at an early age from his grandfather. At the young age of nine, he was sent to the Shaolin Temple to further his studies by learning traditional Shaolin Kung Fu. It is a great honor for a child to be admitted into the Shaolin Temple, which demands extraordinary discipline and provides rigorous, world-class Kung Fu training. The Shaolin Temple has produced some of the finest Kung Fu masters in Chinese history. Because of his exceptional abilities in Kung Fu, Minguang Tong became an ordained Shaolin monk in 1998 at the young age of 20. Since then, Mr. Tong has won countless prizes in both Chinese national and international Kung Fu championships. In addition to his achievements in competition, he has also participated in Kung Fu performances, such as the live Shaolin Kung-Fu production “Wheel of Life”, which was applauded as the “most spectacular piece of theatre on stage” by the Times.
Mr. Mingguang Tong performed in “wheel of Life” at the International Shaolin Kung Fu Festival of 1997. At this Festival, Kung Fu students and experts from all over the world joined to compete and demonstrate their skills. Mr. Tong also competed in several of the festival’s events, winning the championship in Double Whip, Collective Whip, and third prize in Meihua Double Knife. He was deemed by the renowned judges at this event to be one of the greatest Kung Fu artists in the world.
