Kung Fu literally means time and energy. Any accomplishment that requires time and energy is called Kung Fu. Thus, to attain proficiency in Chinese martial arts, one will have to invest time and energy into his or her training. Because of one's dedication and discipline in perfecting the mental, physical, and spiritual requirements of being a true martial artist, the term Kung Fu had becomes synonymous to Chinese martial arts - Wushu.
Our school teaches both External Styles and Internal Styles, Northern and Southern Style Kung Fu. Northern style was designed for taller Northern Chinese, who utilized their long legs for most of their fighting applications, thus the majority of their techniques involve kicking. Southern Style was designed for shorter Southern Chinese. Because of their shorter bodies, they developed their arm techniques more than their legs, for close range fighting applications.
External Styles Characterized by their explosive power and speed, and the unique aesthetics of various open hand and weapon forms, excellent for both children and adults. Practitioners of external style Martial Arts learn better body control and coordination, and through vigorous training, increase their muscular power and flexibility. Children will develop discipline, motivation, patience, humility and respect for each other; and equally important, will enjoy enormously the pleasure of learning to perform different animal routines such as snake, tiger, eagle, crane, monkey, horse, preying mantis etc.
Internal Styles Characterized by softness and circularity, rooted in ancient Taoist philosophy, emphasizing the balance of Yin and Yang, soft and hard, light and dark, feminine and masculine, the inner and the outer. The Internal Styles as exemplified by Tai Chi, Hsing Yi, Bagua, and Water Style, are at once a healing and martial art. Tai Chi or Taijiquan, for example, combines movement and Chi (energy) circulation, breathing, and stretching techniques in its training. The experience of hundreds of years has shown that practicing Tai Chi Chuan can improve one's health, reduce tension, and cure a number of ailments such as high blood pressure, arthritis, asthma, stomach illness, heart problems, and nervousness. The same techniques for developing internal Chi for use in combat, prove also to be effective in promoting long life, healing, and rejuvenation. Today, Tai Chi Chuan is practiced by millions of people around the world for its health benefits.
Our training incorporates arm and leg techniques providing a complete training. After completing the fundamental requirements, students will then be qualified to get into weapon training.
The required discipline and training in Kung Fu not only strengthens the body for physical fitness and self-defense, but also functions as the starting point toward greater self awareness.
The lessons learned will also enhance your ability to deal with any challenge you may encounter throughout your life. Any student interested in Shaolin Kung Fu must have a strong will and patience to go through this challenging, vigorous, and dynamic training.
